Description
CRTAC1, a secreted protein, is expressed in the interterritorial matrix of articular deep zone cartilage. There are three isoforms for CRTAC1; isoform 1, considered the canonical sequence, is expressed in brain and is detected in cartilage, bone, cultured chondrocytes and lung, and at low levels in heart, and is not detected in osteoblasts. Isoform 2 is also expressed in brain. CRTAC1 is up-regulated in mesenchymal stem cells undergoing chondrogenic differentiation and by BMP4.
