Statistical methodology development in high-dimensional data analysis, especially in the area of internal validation of a prediction model

Dr. Chen is a research associate professor of the department of Biostatistics in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She has over fifteen years of experience in biostatistical consulting. Since joining the Department of Biostatistics, part of her daily service involves high dimensional data analysis of gene microarray and protein/lipid MALDI-TOF data. The techniques of proteomics and genomics have made it possible to apply molecular signatures to establish a more precise prediction for cancer disease. Her primary collaboration involves the research of lung cancer, radiation epidemiology, and surgical outcome of kid and stem cell transplant groups. Her methodological research interests focus on statistical methodology development in high-dimensional data analysis, especially in the area of internal validation of a prediction model. As a biostatistician, her contribution to her collaborators is applying the most appropriate statistical analysis method to avoid overfitting and educating the MD students and junior researchers about the concepts on the statistical methods she applies.
