ATF3
Basics
Aliases:
This biomarker is also known as:- cAMP-dependent transcription factor ATF-3,
- activating transcription factor 3,
- cyclic AMP-dependent transcription factor ATF-3,
Description…
ATF3 is a member of the the mammalian activation transcription factor/cAMP responsive element-binding (CREB) protein family of transcription factors. The ATF3 protein binds the cAMP response element (CRE) (consensus: 5'-GTGACGT[AC][AG]-3'), a sequence present in many viral and cellular promoters. the ATF3 gene is induced by many signals that are also involved in cancer cell signaling. ATF3 represses transcription from promoters with ATF sites. Several transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been found. It is thought that alternative splicing of this gene may be involved in the regulation of target genes.
