Description…

SPON1, an extracellular matrix protein, is a cell adhesion protein that promotes the attachment of spinal cord and sensory neuron cells and the outgrowth of neurites in vitro. It may contribute to the growth and guidance of axons in both the spinal cord and the PNS. It is a major factor for vascular smooth muscle cell. SPON1 is most highly expressed in lung, lower expression in brain, heart, kidney, liver and testis, and expressed at lowest rate in pancreas, skeletal muscle and ovary. It is not expressed in spleen.
