Biomarker Reference Laboratory

Objectives

To serve as a resource for facilitating the refinement and analytical validation of biomarker assays, methodologies, and reagents and assist in and perform Network-supported validation of biomarkers

Program Description

The Biomarkers Reference Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) validates early cancer detection biomarker assays authorized by the NCI Program Staff and the EDRN Executive Committee. The NIST DNA Technologies Group is integrated into the EDRN network to provide: 1) technical support to reconfigure early detection cancer assays for high throughput and 2) analytical validation services for promising biomarkers and assay systems arising in Biomarker Developmental Laboratories of the EDRN.

Expertise and Resources Available

NIST provides technical expertise and support to EDRN scientists in areas of strength at the NIST DNA Technologies Group (DNA technologies; high throughput DNA analysis; human DNA identification and diagnostics; molecular cytogenetics; validation and standards for DNA analysis).
